Chefchaouen Hosts the 15th Regional Goat Exhibition under the Theme of Local Development and Territorial Justice

Chefchaouen, Morocco – June 24, 2025 – The 15th edition of the Regional Goat Exhibition opened on Tuesday morning, June 24, in the city of Chefchaouen, under the theme:
“Goat Breeding Chain: A Pillar for Local Development and Herd Reconstruction within the Green Generation Framework, Serving Tribal Communities.”

The event is organized by the Agricultural Chamber of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Interior. The exhibition runs until June 28 on a 3,000-square-meter area, expecting to attract about 30,000 visitors and host 103 exhibitors, including 98 regional participants and 5 from other regions.

Exhibition Objectives

The Regional Goat Exhibition aims to:

  • Facilitate experience and knowledge exchange among breeders.
  • Improve productivity and quality of goat products.
  • Promote local and regional goat breeds.
  • Support marketing and agricultural cooperatives within the social and solidarity economy framework.

Parallel Scientific and Training Activities

The program includes scientific seminars with Moroccan and international experts discussing “Adapting Forest and Pastoral Goat Breeding Systems in the Mediterranean Basin.” Additionally, technical workshops and tastings of local goat products are organized.

Regional Sector Data

According to the Ministry’s statement:

  • The Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region holds more than 8% of Morocco’s national goat herd.
  • Chefchaouen province alone accounts for 37% of the regional herd and 48% of the regional goat breeders.

Agreements to Empower Rural Women and Boost Local Economy

The exhibition witnessed the signing of partnership agreements with local communes and agricultural institutions, including:

  • Establishment of an agro-tourism lodge in Bni Salman commune.
  • Financing of 500 heads of goats benefiting women’s cooperatives in Bab Taza commune.

The exhibition aligns with the strategic goals of the Green Generation 2020-2030 initiative, focusing on empowering rural populations, increasing incomes, supporting productive value chains to create jobs, ensuring local food security, and developing vulnerable mountainous areas.
