Launch of the First National Campaign to Raise Awareness on Disability Issues in Morocco

For more than a decade, Morocco has been advancing major reforms aimed at strengthening the rights of persons with disabilities. This commitment was embodied by the ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in 2009, the inclusion of disability rights in the July 2011 Constitution, the adoption of Framework Law No. 97.13 on the protection and promotion of the rights of persons with disabilities in 2016, and the development of an integrated public policy to promote the rights of this group.

Within this framework, the Ministry of Solidarity, Social Integration, and Family, in collaboration with various stakeholders, is implementing a set of structural initiatives, including issuing disability identity cards, developing accessibility in partnership with local councils and strengthening their capacities, improving schooling for children with severe disabilities in specialized institutions, enhancing the professional integration of persons with disabilities, and supporting initiatives by associations working in the disability sector. Awareness initiatives also include producing and broadcasting educational capsules on digital platforms.

In this context, the first national awareness campaign on disability issues will be launched, targeting all citizens and relevant actors. The campaign aims to establish an effective communication channel between the ministry and various stakeholders, while promoting a positive image and supportive attitudes towards persons with disabilities and their families.
