On Sunday, the Royal Gendarmerie arrested a young man in the village of Tenkefel, in the commune of Imi Nfaas, Sidi Ifni Province, after he brutally assaulted his mother and then disappeared.
According to preliminary information, the 29-year-old man, who suffers from severe mental and behavioral disorders, bound his mother and attacked her with a sharp object, causing her severe injuries and leading to the loss of one of her eyes. The incident occurred on the second day of Eid al-Adha and shocked the entire village.
The perpetrator, who comes from a poor family, had been the subject of several complaints from the local residents. He had been taken multiple times to the mental health department at the regional hospital in Tiznit, under the supervision of local authorities. Despite this, he continued to instill fear in his surroundings, while his mother made great efforts to care for him, often traveling between villages to bring him back home whenever he went missing.
The incident prompted an immediate response from the Civil Protection, who rushed to the scene and transferred the victim in critical condition to the Khemisset Regional Hospital for necessary medical treatment.
The suspect was apprehended in the same village without resistance, and the relevant authorities have launched an investigation under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office to determine the full circumstances and details of this horrific attack.
