Houara Forest Fire in Tangier: Suspect Arrested, Public Prosecutor’s Office Opens Investigation

Tangier, Morocco – The King’s Public Prosecutor at the Tangier Court of Appeals reacted swiftly and decisively following the devastating fire that ravaged the Houara forest in the Gueznaia commune. Immediately upon receiving the alert, the Public Prosecutor’s Office instructed the Royal Gendarmerie to launch an urgent investigation to determine the causes and circumstances of this incident.

Initial investigations quickly yielded results. An individual was apprehended near the fire site, found in possession of a bag containing ten lighters, a cannabis pipe, and a small knife. The suspect was immediately placed in police custody for further investigation and to shed light on the matter.

After being brought before the Public Prosecutor’s Office this Wednesday morning, the accused was interrogated. Subsequently, a request to open an investigation was presented against him for his alleged involvement in charges including: “deliberate setting of forest fires, drug consumption, and illegal possession of a bladed weapon.” The investigating judge ordered his incarceration at Tangier 2 local prison.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office affirmed that it would keep the public informed of the investigation’s progress and results, in the interest of transparency and the proper application of the law.
