Sefrou: Rural Families Sound the Alarm over Rising School Dropout Rates, Especially Among Girls

Families in rural areas of the Sefrou province are raising serious concerns about a significant rise in school dropout rates, particularly among female students.

This urgent warning, coming directly from the heart of the affected communities, sheds light on a pressing social and developmental challenge that threatens the future of upcoming generations.

In this regard, Mr. Khalid, a local affairs observer, stated that “the problem of distance and the absence of school transport buses are major contributing factors to this issue, especially as they increase the hardship faced by female students and their families.”

Mr. Khalid added that “despite the efforts made under the National Initiative for Human Development, school dropout indicators continue to rise, which calls for a reassessment of the current programs in place.”

Many of these families face difficult economic and social conditions, which at times push them to make decisions that negatively impact their children’s educational paths—especially for girls. Through sounding the alarm, these families are sending a plea to local and national stakeholders, urging them to intensify efforts and coordinate interventions to implement comprehensive support programs that offer sustainable solutions to these challenges—ensuring the right to education for all and preventing the further escalation of this phenomenon.
