Syria Closes Polisario Office, Welcomes Reopening of Moroccan Embassy in Damascus

Damascus, Syria – In a striking diplomatic development, Syrian authorities have effectively closed the office of the separatist “Polisario Front” in the capital, Damascus. This move coincided with the visit of a Moroccan technical delegation tasked with preparing for the reopening of the Kingdom of Morocco’s embassy in Syria.

A joint delegation, comprising Moroccan officials and senior Syrian officials, visited the site to verify the effective closure of the “Polisario” office. This step is a clear affirmation from the Syrian authorities of their firm commitment to respecting the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco, and their unequivocal rejection of any form of support for separatist entities.

This move also reflects Syria’s strong will to strengthen bilateral cooperation with Morocco and enhance regional stability. His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s decision to reopen Morocco’s embassy in Damascus, which His Majesty had announced during the recent Arab Summit in Baghdad, inaugurates a new era in Moroccan-Syrian relations after years of suspension.

The closure of the “Polisario” office in Syria constitutes a tangible embodiment of this mutual commitment in favor of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco, and strengthens Morocco’s position in its efforts aimed at resolving the Moroccan Sahara issue.
