Local Sources Sound Alarm: Slow Development Deepens Hardship in Tamhdit Commune, Ifrane

A Community Activist in Fez to “Fez News”: “The License Platform” is an Obstacle to Youth Projects in Popular Neighborhoods… Bureaucracy is Killing Their Dreams!

Exclusive: In a statement to “Fez News,” a prominent community activist in Fez (who requested not to be named at this time) criticized what he described as the “interference” of the license management platform in every small and large matter related to economic activities in the city. According to him, this interference is not aimed at organizing or facilitating, but rather at obstructing and creating hurdles.

The activist explained that this approach particularly affects young people in popular neighborhoods, saying: “It is unreasonable for this platform to continue complicating procedures. Many popular neighborhoods, due to their nature and the circumstances of their establishment, do not have buildings with construction permits that fully meet the strict administrative standards they insist on. This situation forces many ambitious young people to abandon their dreams of starting small economic projects in their neighborhoods, which contributes to worsening unemployment and kills their entrepreneurial spirit.”

The activist added, with frustration: “It is illogical that applications for commercial or craft licenses are rejected based on trivial or bypassable administrative excuses, at a time when the city needs every individual or collective initiative to drive the local economy forward.”

The activist considered that “excessive bureaucracy and unjustified administrative complications are killing youth and economic initiatives,” urging city officials and elected representatives to conduct a comprehensive review of the license platform’s procedures. He called for a shift towards facilitating and supporting initiatives rather than complicating and obstructing them, especially when it comes to projects that provide income for young people and contribute to the development of popular neighborhoods that are in dire need of such initiatives.

He emphasized the need for realistic solutions that take into account the specificities of popular neighborhoods and support young people who want to participate in the economic cycle, rather than imposing impossible conditions that seem to exclude them.
