Major Fire Breaks Out at Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat Amidst Renovation Work

Rabat: A massive fire erupted this Saturday afternoon at the Moulay Abdellah Stadium in the capital, Rabat, where renovation and rehabilitation works are in full swing in preparation for hosting the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

According to a private source for “Le Site info,” the fire started during welding operations on the metal structure covering parts of the stadium. The flames caused a number of seats inside the stadium to catch fire. Fortunately, no human casualties were reported in the incident.

Upon being alerted to the incident, civil protection services rushed to the scene and successfully brought the fire under control and extinguished it before it could spread further.

This incident casts a shadow over the pace of ongoing work at the stadium, which is considered one of the most prominent sports facilities in the Kingdom and is undergoing extensive upgrades to prepare it for hosting important continental competitions. Investigations are ongoing to determine the precise causes behind the fire.
