In a grand celebratory atmosphere, Fes hosted the official celebrations marking the 69th anniversary of the establishment of the National Police this Friday morning. The event was attended by prominent figures from various judicial, security, civil, and military authorities, as well as elected officials, civil society representatives, and media outlets.
During the event, a speech was delivered on behalf of the Acting Fes Police Chief, who was unable to attend due to an official assignment. The speech began with a warm welcome and gratitude to the attendees, emphasizing that this anniversary is not just a symbolic occasion, but a moment to acknowledge the sacrifices and heroic efforts of the police force since its establishment in 1956 by King Mohammed V, and the subsequent modernization under the leadership of the late King Hassan II, up to the ongoing royal attention provided to the National Police by King Mohammed VI.
The Acting Police Chief emphasized that commemorating this anniversary is also an opportunity to honor the efforts made to ensure citizens’ safety and protect their property, stressing that “security is not just a collective demand, but also a national duty and a shared project requiring everyone’s involvement.”
A Comprehensive and Evolving Security Strategy
In outlining the main aspects of the security strategy for Fes, the Acting Police Chief explained that this strategy is part of the broader direction of the General Directorate of National Security. He highlighted several key points, including:
- Daily analysis of complaints and reports received by the security services.
- An anticipatory approach based on preparedness and vigilance.
- Strategically planned deployment of mobile and on-foot units to foster a sense of security.
- Intensified awareness campaigns in educational institutions to enhance awareness among young people.
- Collaboration with civil society and regular communication meetings to promote the concept of community policing.
He also emphasized that Fes Police is actively involved in initiatives aimed at protecting human rights, including supporting mechanisms for women victims of violence, protecting minors, and coordinating with the Ombudsman and the National Human Rights Council. Furthermore, efforts to facilitate the work of the National Preventive Mechanism Against Torture were also underscored.
Additionally, he highlighted the importance of coordination with other security agencies, such as the Royal Gendarmerie, Directorate General for Territorial Surveillance, Auxiliary Forces, and Civil Protection, praising the vital role of this integration in maintaining security and public order.
