President of the Moroccan Bar Associations Responds to Campaigns of Doubt: “We Are Committed to the Unity of the Profession and Advancing Reform”

In what he described as a “critical and pivotal moment,” Abdellah El Ansari, President of the Association of Bar Associations in Morocco, issued a strongly worded statement reaffirming the unity of the legal profession and the legitimacy of its institutions. He denounced what he called “attempts at disruption and dismantling” targeting the legal profession and its representative bodies.

El Ansari emphasized that the association is going through a period that requires heightened awareness and responsibility, urging lawyers to remain united and engage constructively with justice system partners. He stressed the importance of serious institutional dialogue as a means to strengthen trust and restore dignity to the profession.

The statement highlighted the association’s commitment, during this phase, to fostering a collective culture rooted in consensus and wisdom, while maintaining open and regular institutional dialogue with key stakeholders in the justice system. The aim is to build a unified professional foundation that leads to well-considered collective decisions in the interest of the profession’s future.

In a clear response to what he described as “suspicious attempts,” the president stressed that the upcoming National Lawyers’ Conference “will not be merely an organizational event,” but a decisive moment to rebuild trust and launch a new dynamic for modernizing professional institutions, reinforcing their independence, and enhancing their role in defending rights, freedoms, and justice.

El Ansari warned that any attempt to undermine the unity of the profession, its institutions, or its independent decision-making is “an unacceptable assault, regardless of its source.” He reaffirmed the association’s commitment to defending the values and principles that guide the legal profession and to confronting any deviations or actions that seek to create division within the legal community.

The statement concluded with a call to all lawyers to rally around their institutions and actively contribute to the success of the upcoming conference, driven by professional responsibility and in rejection of any “incendiary or destructive rhetoric” that may jeopardize the profession’s hard-earned achievements.
