U20 AFCON: Atlas Lions and Flying Eagles Stalemate

Cairo: The Moroccan Under-20 national team was held to a goalless draw by their Nigerian counterparts on Sunday at the June 30 Stadium in Cairo, in the second matchday of Group B of the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations “Egypt 2025”.

From the outset, the Atlas Lions imposed their rhythm, dominating the first half with controlled possession and numerous incursions into the opposing half. Despite creating several clear scoring opportunities, Mohamed Ouahbi’s players were unable to translate their superiority onto the scoreboard.

In response, the Flying Eagles relied on a fast transition game and sporadic counter-attacks, without genuinely threatening the Moroccan defense or goalkeeper Yanis Benchaaouch. The first half thus concluded in a scoreless stalemate.

The second half followed a similar dynamic: a committed match, punctuated by attempts from both sides, but marked by a lack of efficiency in the final third.

With this draw, Morocco maintains the top spot in the group with 4 points, ahead of Nigeria on goal difference. Tunisia sits in 3rd place with 3 points, while Kenya remains at the bottom of the group without any points after their defeat to the Carthage Eagles.

The Atlas Lions will face Tunisia next Wednesday at 4:00 PM in a decisive match for qualification to the final phase.
