On Tuesday morning, the Kamilia neighborhood in Meknes was rocked by a tragic crime in which a retired soldier in his sixties lost his life at the hands of his thirties-aged son, who suffers from mental health issues and is known for his addiction to drugs and hallucinatory pills.
According to local sources, the perpetrator dealt a fatal blow to his father inside their home using a sharp object, striking the victim’s head before fleeing to an unknown location.
The injured father was rushed to the emergency department of Mohammed V Hospital, but the severity of his wounds led to his death shortly after.
Security forces in Meknes, after a thorough search operation, managed to apprehend the suspect later. He was subjected to the usual legal procedures. Meanwhile, residents have called for an investigation into individuals with mental health disorders, as they are increasingly seen as a threat to public safety.
Civil and human rights organizations have also weighed in on the incident, issuing urgent calls to authorities to implement strategies to accommodate such patients, provide specialized hospitals, and ensure adequate human and logistical resources to protect lives and guarantee the mental safety of the community.
