In the early hours of Wednesday, April 30, the Regional Judicial Police Department in Beni Mellal launched a criminal investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor, following an incident in which a police officer—off duty at the time—was assaulted by three individuals who appeared to be under the influence. The assailants stole his private vehicle, which contained his service equipment, including his firearm.
According to initial findings, the officer had intervened to break up a nighttime dispute between a group of individuals. He then went home to retrieve his service weapon and handcuffs in an attempt to detain those involved. However, one of the suspects brandished a bladed weapon at him and managed to seize his vehicle, which still contained the firearm, before fleeing with two accomplices.
Thanks to intensive investigations and fieldwork carried out by the police, the three suspects were apprehended. The stolen firearm and its ammunition were recovered, along with two spent cartridge cases, believed to have been discharged under circumstances still being investigated through forensic and ballistic analysis to determine the exact sequence of events.
The suspects have been placed in custody pending the ongoing judicial investigation, under the supervision of the public prosecutor. Authorities continue to question all involved parties to uncover the full details and motivations behind the incident.
