Rabat: Niger’s Foreign Minister Praises Morocco’s Support for the Sahel Alliance and Describes the Royal Initiative as “A Lifeline”

Niger’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Nigeriens Abroad in the Transitional Government of the Republic of Niger, Mr. Bakary Yawou Sangaré, expressed his country’s deep appreciation for Morocco’s continuous support to the countries of the Sahel Alliance, emphasizing that the Kingdom, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, maintains its steadfast approach in supporting just African causes.

This came in a statement made by the Nigerien official to the press following the royal reception at the Royal Palace in Rabat, which also included the foreign ministers of Mali and Burkina Faso. The meeting was an opportunity to exchange views on the future of cooperation between Morocco and the Sahel Alliance.

Sangaré highlighted that Morocco has been at the forefront of understanding the nature of the challenges faced by the Sahel countries. He added that the Kingdom has not only declared solidarity but has actively demonstrated it, without interfering in the internal affairs of the three countries.

In this context, the minister also discussed the initiative launched by King Mohammed VI to enable the landlocked Sahel countries to access the Atlantic Ocean, describing the move as “a strategic ray of hope” to drive development and economic openness.

Sangaré concluded his statement by referencing the contents of the royal meeting, which, according to him, was marked by constructive guidance and Morocco’s clear readiness to strengthen both bilateral and collective partnerships with the countries involved, with a view to building regional cooperation based on solidarity and shared responsibility.
