The Casablanca Police Headquarters has firmly denied the authenticity of reports accompanying the circulation of a video showing four individuals on a public street, which falsely claimed they were involved in stealing mobile phones from students.
In an official clarification statement, the police explained that the individuals appearing in the video voluntarily presented themselves to the national security services at the Bernoussi District following the spread of the footage with misleading captions suggesting a theft. They stated in their declarations that they are friends with a prior acquaintance and that the recorded scenes were merely a moment of spontaneous joking among them.
The statement further noted that one of the individuals filed a complaint with the security services concerning defamation and the dissemination of false information against him. This complaint is currently under investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office.
In its commitment to keeping the public informed, the Casablanca Police Headquarters emphasized that investigations are still underway to identify those responsible for spreading fake news likely to cause public anxiety and undermine the sense of security among citizens.
