Amid the growing demand for European visas—particularly French ones—many Moroccans are repeatedly struggling to book appointments through TLScontact, the official visa application center. This situation has opened the door to a thriving black market of brokers and appointment resellers, adding financial strain on applicants and casting doubt on the transparency of the process.
In recent weeks, numerous complaints have been reported by visa applicants who stated it was nearly impossible to secure an appointment legally through the center’s website. Meanwhile, black-market intermediaries offer “guaranteed” appointments for fees reaching up to 4000 MAD, especially during peak seasons.
A responsible source in the immigration sector told Fes News:
“High demand, poor distribution, and weak monitoring mechanisms have all contributed to the creation of a black market that exploits citizens’ need to travel for study, medical treatment, or family visits.”
According to data from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the authorities are aware of these irregularities and have begun strengthening digital oversight of booking systems. Several suspicious accounts have already been suspended in Morocco and other countries.
To avoid falling into the trap of brokers, immigration experts recommend the following:
- Monitor the official TLScontact website daily, as new appointment slots open sporadically—often early in the morning.
- Never share personal information with any unauthorized third parties, including so-called “assistance” offices.
- Be patient and cautious of tempting offers on social media, where fake accounts claim to have the ability to secure appointments.
- Use a reliable email address and a personal phone number during registration to prevent data theft or account manipulation.
- Report any suspicious activity or fraud attempts to the relevant authorities.
European embassies are currently working on restructuring visa services in Morocco by updating digital systems, increasing transparency in the booking process, and introducing new criteria to prioritize applications based on their type and the applicant’s situation.
Until long-term solutions are implemented, public awareness and reporting of violations remain crucial in curbing the phenomenon and ensuring fair and transparent administrative services for all.
