ONSSA Breaks its Silence Regarding the Transmission of Tuberculosis Through Milk and Dairy Products

The National Office for Food Safety (ONSSA) has confirmed the safety of milk and its derivatives, emphasizing that there is no risk of tuberculosis transmission through these products. They are subject to strict and thorough health monitoring throughout all stages of production and distribution.

In a statement, ONSSA clarified that milk intended for consumption is monitored starting from the livestock farming stage, through the collection and processing in licensed industrial units, all the way to points of sale, which are continuously inspected. The office also emphasized that imported milk and dairy products undergo rigorous tests at border points to ensure they meet both national and international health standards.

ONSSA urged citizens to avoid consuming untreated milk, especially that sold by street vendors, due to the potential risk of transmitting diseases such as bovine tuberculosis, as untreated milk lacks the necessary heat treatment and health monitoring.
