In a move reflecting a renewed commitment to enhancing bilateral judicial relations, Moroccan Minister of Justice Abdellatif Ouahbi and his French counterpart Gérald Darmanin signed a joint declaration on Monday in Rabat. The agreement aims to strengthen legal and judicial cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, Ouahbi emphasized that the visit aligns with efforts to support the strategic partnership between Morocco and France. He noted that both sides reached comprehensive understandings on key issues, particularly the extradition of criminals who commit serious offenses in France and attempt to evade justice by seeking refuge in Morocco. The Moroccan minister affirmed the country’s commitment to expediting extradition procedures in accordance with international agreements and ethical obligations toward its French partner.
The agreement also covers other legal areas, including updating and improving bilateral agreements, especially those regulating the legal profession between the two countries. The goal is to achieve greater balance in legal and judicial practices. Additionally, both parties agreed to enhance the exchange of expertise in digital justice and electronic law, contributing to the advancement of judicial systems in both nations.
Furthermore, the ministers discussed the situation of the Moroccan community residing in France, with a focus on issues related to personal status and family rights. They underscored the importance of facilitating legal procedures to safeguard the rights of Moroccans abroad and support their integration into French society.
Ouahbi highlighted that this judicial cooperation reflects the deep historical ties between Morocco and France, built on shared interests and cultural and economic proximity. He stressed that the strong friendship between the two countries is fundamental to ensuring security and stability in the region.
The Moroccan minister reaffirmed his ministry’s commitment to constructively addressing all joint legal matters, ensuring the continuity of this strategic relationship, and delivering tangible benefits for both the Moroccan and French people.
