Between 2009 and 2024, a total of 641 artisans and craftsmen in the Fès-Meknes region have been awarded quality labels and certifications, representing 25.5% of the total labels granted nationwide.
According to the Regional Directorate of Handicrafts in Fès, these certifications include various labels, notably the national label, the regional label, collective certification marks, and specific marks for renowned crafts within the region.
These labels cover a wide range of traditional products such as Fez Zellige (mosaic tiles), Fez pottery, the certified Moroccan Tagine, Ziouani and Moroccan slippers, the traditional Moroccan saddle, the Moroccan teapot, and carpets including Beni M’guild, Beni Mtir, Atlas Middle Mountains Handira, Taza Doum, and the rugs of Aït Seghrouchen, Beni Ouarain, and Marmoucha.
Geographically, 519 labels were granted in Fès, 66 in Meknes, 40 in Sefrou and Boulemane, and 16 in the provinces of Taza and Taounate.
The source further emphasized that these labels and certifications are not merely a form of documentation but serve as a crucial mechanism for preserving and sustaining Moroccan traditional crafts. They also play a vital role in fostering innovation among artisans, safeguarding Morocco’s cultural heritage, and enhancing the competitiveness of traditional Moroccan products in international markets.
Additionally, the Directorate noted that the Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property recently registered 10 new industrial trademarks, including those for Caftans, Zellige, slippers, and jewelry, bringing the total number of registered collective labels and certifications to 77.
