On Tuesday evening, judicial police elements in the regional security area of Temara successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle a massive quantity of Shira (hashish) weighing 4 tons and 321 kilograms. This operation was based on precise information provided by the General Directorate for the Surveillance of the National Territory. The operation resulted in the arrest of five individuals, aged between 24 and 50, suspected of being linked to a criminal network involved in international drug trafficking and psychotropic substances.
According to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security, the security operation was carried out in coordination with the Royal Gendarmerie in Skhirat. Searches inside two utility vehicles led to the seizure of 109 packages of Shira, totaling more than four tons.
Investigations also led to the seizure of four cars used by the suspects in their criminal activities, in addition to confiscating a sum of 4 million dirhams (approximately 40 million centimes), which is believed to be proceeds from illegal drug trafficking.
The suspects were placed under judicial supervision pending the ongoing judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office. This aims to uncover the extent of this criminal network and arrest any other potential accomplices.
This security operation is part of the intensive efforts made by security agencies within the framework of cooperation between the General Directorate of National Security and the General Directorate for the Surveillance of the National Territory to enhance the fight against international drug trafficking and psychotropic substances, and to strike organized crime networks.
