MP Submits Written Question to Interior Minister Regarding Exploitation of Foreign Aid in Religious Occasions for Electoral Purposes

Rabat, – MP Mohamed Walzine submitted a written question to the Minister of the Interior, through the Speaker of the House of Representatives, regarding the exploitation of social aid by certain political parties, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan, for electoral purposes. The question was raised in accordance with the provisions of the House of Representatives’ internal regulations, in which the MP called on the Minister to clarify the measures taken to curb these practices, which he described as “exploitation of citizens’ suffering and needs.”

In his question, the MP emphasized that some political parties distribute “Ramadan food baskets” and other relief materials under the guise of social aid. However, these actions carry clear electoral motives. He pointed out that these practices involve recording the names and phone numbers of beneficiaries, raising questions about the true purpose of this aid, which appears to be far from humanitarian or social objectives.

The MP added that such actions represent “manipulation of citizens’ suffering and exploitation of their needs and vulnerability,” especially given the difficult economic and social conditions many Moroccan families are enduring. While he expressed no objection to providing assistance to the needy during the holy month, considering it a commendable humanitarian act, he stressed that linking this aid to partisan conditions, such as filling out forms or signing up for party memberships, is “disgusting and undermines the nobility of political work.”

The MP questioned the measures taken by the Ministry of the Interior to limit these practices, which he described as “exploiting poverty and need to sway citizens by preying on their hardships and precarious living conditions.” He also inquired whether there are any planned measures to prevent the misuse of citizens’ personal data for non-humanitarian purposes and what consequences would follow if such violations were detected.

The MP emphasized that exploiting citizens’ personal data, which should be protected by law, constitutes a blatant violation of their rights and is used to advance narrow political agendas. He called for strict measures to ensure that social aid remains free from any political or electoral motives.

This question comes as part of parliamentary efforts to monitor practices that could tarnish the reputation of political work and exploit citizens’ needs for personal or partisan gains. The issue is expected to spark broad debate on mechanisms to ensure the transparency of social aid and protect citizens’ rights from any political exploitation.
