On Wednesday, the industrial zone of Bensouda in Fez witnessed a major industrial event, as Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, inaugurated a new production line for smart electric meters at ZINCO, a subsidiary of the ZINELEC group. This project, with an investment of 12 million dirhams, will create 71 additional job opportunities, reinforcing Morocco’s position as a hub for smart technology manufacturing.
The technology used in these smart meters enables real-time energy consumption measurement and remote electricity grid management, aligning with Morocco’s efforts to modernize its energy infrastructure and promote a shift toward sustainable energy. The Minister of Industry described the project as a “revolution in energy management”, supporting the national energy strategy based on the royal vision for sustainability and energy efficiency.
Anouar Zine Fellali, General Manager of ZINCO, emphasized that this production line marks a significant step towards strengthening Morocco’s industrial sovereignty and reducing dependence on imports. Meanwhile, Kevin Jiaofeng, Vice President of the Chinese group Hexing, highlighted the importance of Moroccan-Chinese cooperation in this project, which reflects Morocco’s forward-looking vision for a modern and sustainable industry.
The new smart meters allow consumers to monitor their energy usage in real-time, helping to optimize consumption and improve energy grid management. This initiative also creates job opportunities for youth in the Fez-Meknes region and supports the local economy, with an annual production capacity of 900,000 meters.
The event was attended by the Governor of the Fez-Meknes region, Mouaad El Jamai, and the regional president, Abdelouahed Ansari, along with representatives of professional and local authorities. This project is expected to strengthen Morocco’s position on the global industrial map and contribute to the national goal of achieving self-sufficiency in smart technology.
