After years of waiting and postponements, Fes News has learned from reliable sources that the company responsible for constructing the Boulemane Proximity Hospital has begun transporting its equipment to the Tinit area, signaling the official start of construction. This long-awaited project has been a pressing demand for the region’s residents. The latest development comes after the completion of all legal and administrative procedures that had previously stalled the project since its announcement in 2015.
Rachid Hammouni, Member of Parliament for the Boulemane constituency, confirmed that the Minister of Health and Social Protection informed him that all necessary procedures have been completed, allowing the construction company to officially begin work. The hospital’s total cost is estimated at 1.7 billion MAD (170 million dirhams), making it one of the region’s major healthcare projects. The hospital aims to enhance the health infrastructure and provide advanced medical services to the residents of Boulemane, Mermoucha, Angel, Kecqo, Sidi Issa, and surrounding areas.
This progress was made possible largely due to the efforts of local civil society groups, which launched a petition in 2015 calling for urgent action to establish a hospital. Their goal was to reduce the hardship of residents forced to travel long distances to access medical services and to ensure their right to healthcare under suitable conditions. The petition, submitted to relevant authorities, played a significant role in reviving the project after years of stagnation.
Despite this encouraging step, concerns remain about whether the authorities will meet the expected construction deadlines and ensure high-quality execution, especially given past experiences where similar healthcare projects faced delays due to funding shortages or administrative hurdles.
