As part of the important legal debates taking place on the national and international scene, the Marriott Hotel in Fez hosted on Friday and Saturday an international symposium entitled “Procedural laws in the process of reform: Challenges to the right to defense and protection of rights”, organized by the Fez Bar Association in cooperation with the Association of Bar Associations in Morocco and the International Federation of Lawyers.
In a special statement to Fez News, Mr. Abdelrahim Ababou, president of the Fez Bar Association, pointed out the importance of the symposium’s recommendations, saying: “We hope that the authorities responsible for the legislation will take the recommendations into consideration and review the chapters that restrict access to justice.” This statement reflects the extent of the concern of many specialists in the legal field about the challenges that may face the right of citizens to access justice.
The sessions on the second day of the seminar focused on vital discussions related to the role of the lawyer in light of the new projects to amend procedural laws, including the upcoming reforms to the criminal and civil procedures, which are considered essential in improving the effectiveness of the work of the courts and the guarantees of fair litigation, especially with regard to the right of defense and the protection of the rights of individuals before the judiciary.
Participants discussed the challenges that may arise as a result of these amendments and their impact on the course of justice in Morocco. While appreciating the reform efforts, attendees stressed the need to strike a balance between improving the legal system and providing real guarantees for the rights of the defense.
This seminar represents an important step towards highlighting the importance of developing the judicial system and promoting transparency in legal procedures, which contributes to better justice and protection of rights.
