The successive increases in egg prices in Morocco are causing concern among consumers as the month of Ramadan approaches, with the price of a single egg exceeding 1.70 dirhams in most stores. A professional source told “Le Site Info” that the retail price of eggs ranges between 1.60 and 1.70 dirhams, compared to 1.40 dirhams in the wholesale markets of Rabat and Casablanca.
In this context, the National Association of Consumer Egg Producers confirmed that the quantities available will be sufficient to cover national needs during the month of Ramadan. In a message addressed to its members, the association stressed the need to sell eggs before 11 a.m. and ensure that they reach consumers quickly.
The association also clarified, in the same note reviewed by “Le Site Info,” that its members, in cooperation with traders, are committed to continuously supplying the “Egg” market in Casablanca with sufficient quantities of eggs.
The association indicated that this initiative comes within the framework of preparations aimed at anticipating the expected increase in demand due to the high consumption of eggs during the month of Ramadan and ensuring an adequate supply to national markets.
Producers attribute the price increase to “the inability to keep up with production due to the high prices of raw materials,” which is rejected by distributors who question the real reasons for the decline in production. On the other hand, both parties rule out the price of a single egg reaching two dirhams in the coming month of Ramadan.
