The King’s Prosecutor at the Marrakech Court of First Instance decided this Sunday evening to pursue a municipal councillor responsible for urban planning files in one of the city’s districts, along with a mediator, on charges of bribery. Both individuals have been placed in Oudaya Prison, pending the presentation of their case tomorrow, Monday, before the criminal chamber handling flagrante delicto cases.
These measures follow the eruption of the case two days ago, when the Green Line of the Public Prosecutor’s Office successfully apprehended the municipal councillor and the mediator in a well-coordinated operation. This came in response to a complaint filed by a foreigner who owns guesthouses in the old city. In his complaint, the foreigner revealed that he had been subjected to fraud and extortion by the suspects, who extorted money from him.
The municipal councillor was arrested in the act of accepting a bribe before being taken to the headquarters of the Judicial Police for further investigation. She was placed under police custody pending her presentation before the competent Public Prosecutor’s Office.
This case has garnered significant attention, particularly due to the involvement of local officials in corruption cases that undermine public trust. This action is part of ongoing efforts to combat corruption and promote integrity in the management of local affairs.
