Local sources in the Zawagha region have revealed a dire situation at the municipal stadium, described as catastrophic. The sports facility is suffering from severe neglect and deterioration of its basic amenities, posing a risk to visitors, especially children and youth who frequent the stadium daily.
According to images obtained by the newspaper, the stadium’s main gate is in such a poor state that it has been shoddily reinforced in a makeshift manner, creating a public safety hazard. Additionally, the doors of adjacent facilities, such as the equipment storage room and sanitary facilities, are dilapidated. A wall on the verge of collapse and cracked surfaces further exacerbate the dangerous conditions.
The source reported that the stadium’s water pump is out of service and non-functional, hindering the provision of water necessary for sports activities and daily use. This situation persists despite promises made by the president of the Fes Municipal Council during a previous visit to the stadium, which have yet to materialize into tangible actions on the ground.
From the platform of “Fes News,” the local source, who is the president of an active sports association within the stadium, appealed to officials to urgently intervene and repair this vital public facility. He emphasized the need to restore the damaged amenities and maintain them through regular and continuous upkeep.
The source noted that six sports associations operate within this stadium, which is the only municipal stadium in the urban area of Upper Zawagha Al-Anbara. This makes it a crucial hub for sports and social activities. The stadium also attracts a large number of visitors, particularly children who need a safe space to practice their sports hobbies.
Amid these concerning conditions, stadium users and local sports associations are calling on authorities to take responsibility and expedite the repair of this vital facility, which plays a significant role in promoting sports and social activities in the Zawagha region.
