The city of Sidi Bennour was shaken this week by a mysterious kidnapping of an elderly woman near a popular bathhouse, the incident, which was documented in a widely circulated video, sparked a wave of controversy and denunciation among Moroccans.
The video shows a group of people, including a woman, forcibly taking the victim to an unknown destination. After her release, the woman revealed shocking details about the incident, as she reported in a complaint to the security services that she was detained for an hour by a gang of three people, including a man disguised as a woman, who kept watching her movements before committing the crime.
According to the victim’s account, the motive behind the kidnapping was theft, as the criminals targeted her to obtain money she had after selling her house, and she indicated that she was surprised during her detention when the suspects tried to search her house before releasing her.
Following the incident, the competent authorities opened an in-depth investigation to identify the perpetrators and those involved in the kidnapping, in preparation for bringing them to justice.
