The General Delegation for Prison and Reintegration Administration is preparing to launch an ambitious program to build 23 new prisons nationwide, with the aim of strengthening prison infrastructure and improving detention conditions.
The source pointed out that the Fes Meknes region will have the largest share of this project, as it will benefit from the establishment of a significant number of new prisons, given the population density and the importance of the region in the national map.
The source explained that these new prisons will comply with international standards in their design, ensuring a suitable environment for prisoners, in terms of ventilation, lighting, health facilities and sufficient space for each inmate, in addition to enhancing rehabilitation and educational programs within them.
This project comes as part of a comprehensive national plan to reduce overcrowding in prisons and replace old institutions, contributing to improving housing conditions and safeguarding the dignity of prisoners, in full compliance with national and international human rights obligations.
The source stressed that this program will constitute a qualitative leap in the infrastructure of penitentiary institutions in Fez Meknes and the rest of the Kingdom, reflecting the commitment of the Delegation to develop the prison sector and promote good governance in its management.
