A political source in Fez: Dropping the delegated management complicates the urban transportation scene and calls for the intervention of the Ministry of Interior

A political source in Fez told Fes News that the decision to terminate the delegated management of the urban transport service further complicates the current situation, noting that the Ministry of Interior is obliged to intervene immediately to save the service, especially as the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations is approaching.

The source added that the contract for the delegated management of urban transportation would have automatically expired in 2027 by law, stressing that the Interior Minister’s recent statement was clear about the need to manage the transition period wisely. He also stressed the importance of ensuring the continuity of the service and avoiding decisions that could lead to unprecedented involvement of the state budget.

The source pointed out that the current situation requires finding urgent solutions for the wages of the company’s workers and accelerating the implementation of the solutions previously proposed by the Ministry of Interior. He also emphasized that the new buses could have been part of these solutions if the file had been handled in a more realistic manner.

He concluded that any ill-considered steps in this file will exacerbate the situation, calling for a clear roadmap that balances between improving the service, protecting workers’ rights, and reducing the burden on the state budget.
