Saudi Arabia Lifts Meningitis Vaccination Requirement for Umrah Pilgrims

In a move aimed at facilitating travel procedures for those wishing to perform Umrah, Saudi authorities have announced the cancellation of the requirement for Neisseria meningitis vaccination. This decision was officially confirmed by the Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation through a circular addressed to all airlines operating in the Kingdom’s airports.

Mohamed Semlali, President of the National Federation of Travel Agencies in Morocco, stated that he had communicated with the relevant authorities in Saudi Arabia, who confirmed the cancellation of this requirement. As a result, Moroccan pilgrims, along with those from various nationalities, are no longer required to provide proof of vaccination as a condition for obtaining an Umrah visa.

The new directive emphasizes the suspension of the previous decision No. (2/15597), issued on January 7, 2025, which mandated vaccination for Umrah pilgrims regardless of their visa type.

This decision is expected to ease travel procedures, particularly after the previous requirement caused chaos and overcrowding at the Pasteur Institute in Casablanca in recent days, as many rushed to receive the vaccine before their trips.
