In preparation for Ramadan. Proactive measures in Fez to control prices, ensure the quality of products and prevent any price manipulation

The governorate of Fez-Meknes region has announced the availability of widely consumed food products in local markets at reasonable prices during the holy month of Ramadan, stressing that strict measures have been taken to ensure the stability of supply and price control.

This came during the expanded meeting of the inter-ministerial committee for vigilance and monitoring of market supply and prices, which was held on Tuesday at the headquarters of the Ministry of Interior in Rabat, with the participation of the governor of the Fes-Meknes region, Moaz Jamei, and officials of the concerned sectors via videoconferencing.

According to data released by the economic affairs and coordination department of the Fes Municipality, markets will witness a stabilization in the prices of consumer products during the holy month, with sufficient stocks to meet the needs of citizens. The same source also pointed to the intensification of monitoring operations to ensure the quality of products and prevent any price manipulation.

In this context, the Mixed Control Committees of the Fes Municipality carried out seven field campaigns between January 20 and 31, including 136 visits to points of sale, production and storage units.

These tours resulted in the registration of 27 violations, including 15 related to consumer protection, in addition to the seizure and destruction of more than 400 kilograms of foodstuffs unfit for consumption.

In order to ensure market stability during Ramadan, the authorities have launched a special surveillance program since last November, including tracking the supply situation, strengthening control mechanisms, and holding coordination meetings with various stakeholders. They also emphasized the need to curb any monopolistic practices and strengthen distribution chains to ensure that essential products reach consumers easily.

The governorate confirmed the continuation of monitoring operations during the month of Ramadan, with strict measures to ensure that traders abide by the laws regulating prices, competition and consumer protection, as well as preventing the circulation of illegal plastic bags.

These efforts come in the context of the royal directives aimed at securing markets during the holy month, by ensuring the availability of goods and combating speculation and price manipulation, in order to protect the purchasing power of citizens and ensure their safety.
