In a significant milestone highlighting academic excellence and scientific innovation, Moroccan professor Anas Bari, a specialist in artificial intelligence, was awarded the 2025 Martin Luther King Award from New York University. This prestigious award is granted annually to academics whose work is distinguished by leadership, innovation, and a commitment to the values of justice and equality championed by the renowned American activist Martin Luther King Jr.
During the ceremony held in New York on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, Professor Bari was recognized for his substantial contributions in leading research teams focused on developing AI tools aimed at improving healthcare, combating climate change, and fighting misinformation, in addition to innovating technologies for disaster preparedness.
In his speech at the ceremony, Professor Bari expressed his deep gratitude for the honor, stating that the award represents not only recognition of his professional journey but also the human values instilled in him in his homeland, Morocco.
Currently the Director of the Research Laboratory at New York University, Bari expressed pride in receiving an award from a university that draws inspiration from King’s values, emphasizing that scientific work must serve human values and contribute to improving the quality of life for individuals and communities.
Professor Bari holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from George Washington University and is considered one of the leading scholars in the field of AI applications across various domains.
