Within the framework of enhancing road safety on the national road network, Minister of Equipment and Water Nizar Baraka presented the results of the ministry and the National Company of Moroccan Motorways during the discussion of the report of the exploratory mission in the House of Representatives.

The minister explained that new generation surveillance cameras have been deployed along the road network, with about 2,000 cameras installed at performance stations and high traffic density sections over the past ten years, as well as the fencing of viaducts and the installation of surveillance cameras to ensure comprehensive road safety.

Enhanced surveillance across multiple centers

Surveillance is distributed to a central control room, two regional rooms, and 10 dirt centers to provide round-the-clock surveillance, as part of the emergency plan to ensure the regular and safe flow of traffic.

Securing archways

As for the overpasses, a tripartite agreement was signed to secure them with fences and surveillance cameras. A total of 130 overpasses have been secured, and the first phase, which included **85 overpasses, has been completed, while the second phase is underway to secure an additional 46 overpasses.

Measures to secure roads and maintain safety

To enhance safety, fencing has been placed along motorways to prevent the entry of animals and pedestrians, and special patrols have been organized to deter herders. Emergency stop lanes for heavy trucks have also been set aside, with 17 lanes implemented along the network

In a move to improve infrastructure, the company is working to popularize solar lighting in areas with heavy traffic, such as rest stops and performance stations.

As for relief on motorways, the minister emphasized that the company is working to develop the fleet of relief vehicles and equip them with a TETRA radio communication system and a GPS system to ensure rapid intervention in emergency situations.

This all comes within the framework of enhancing road safety by improving monitoring and immediate communication with field teams to ensure the protection of road users.
