The head of the Moulay Yacoub commune for the Popular Movement Party (PMP), Yassine Cherkani, submitted his resignation request to the regional governor, citing several obstacles that prevent him from performing his duties as required.
In his resignation request, Cherkani emphasized that local communities have major responsibilities and competencies, with very limited financial and logistical resources, which makes it difficult to effectively carry out all the tasks assigned to them.
He also pointed to “the slowness in addressing the projects and files at hand, and the repudiation by some parties of their commitments,” adding that he is not satisfied with “the limited role that is imposed on the elected, which contradicts the official directives of the state.”
The head of the community explained that the territorial communities bear additional responsibilities due to the failure of some authorities to fulfill their commitments, stressing the lack of effective implementation of the decentralization approach, despite the fact that the communities have bypassed the guardianship system and are subject, according to the new laws, to administrative control and accompaniment by the competent authorities.
