In preparation for the holy month of Ramadan 1446 AH, the Moroccan government reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the availability of essential consumer goods at reasonable prices during a high-level ministerial meeting held in Rabat on Tuesday, February 4, 2025. The government has implemented a series of measures to regulate markets and enhance monitoring.
Regarding seafood products, Zakia Driouch, the Secretary of State in charge of Fisheries, confirmed that the sector is working to provide frozen fish at balanced prices. She announced that distribution will expand to 35 cities this year, up from 22 cities last year. Fish prices are expected to range between 17 and 100 MAD, depending on the type. Additionally, the end of the biological rest period in mid-February will ensure an increased supply of surface fish such as sardines, mackerel, and anchovies during Ramadan.
Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Water, and Forests, Ahmed El Bouari, emphasized that the ministry is closely monitoring production processes to guarantee the availability of highly consumed food products during Ramadan. He assured that all goods will be available in sufficient quantities and at competitive prices.
Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to maintain stable market supplies at reasonable prices. He reassured the public that there are no concerns regarding food shortages and stressed the importance of intensified market surveillance to prevent price manipulation and ensure fair access to products across the country.
The meeting, hosted by the Ministry of Interior, was attended by ministers from key sectors including economy and finance, health, agriculture and fisheries, industry and trade, as well as energy transition and sustainable development. Officials reiterated their commitment to close coordination in regulating markets and protecting Moroccans’ purchasing power during the sacred month.
