Cancer Threatens Thousands of Moroccans: Health Ministry Launches Preventive Early Detection Plan

On Tuesday, February 4, 2025, Morocco observes World Cancer Day amidst alarming statistics, with 50,000 new cases recorded annually. Breast cancer among women (39.1%) and lung cancer among men (25.8%) are the leading types.

In response, the Ministry of Health has strengthened its efforts by launching specialized centers and introducing new equipment in several cities. Additionally, the ministry has rolled out a free early detection program targeting women aged 40 to 69 for breast cancer screenings and women aged 30 to 49 for cervical cancer screenings.

The World Health Organization has also emphasized that smoking, poor diet, and lack of physical activity are among the leading cancer risk factors, urging the adoption of a healthy lifestyle to reduce the risk of developing cancer.
