Police in Laâyoune Use Service Weapon to Arrest Suspect Who Threatened Public Safety

As part of ongoing efforts by security forces to ensure public safety and protect citizens, a police inspector from the Laâyoune Security Directorate was compelled to use his service weapon during an operation to arrest a 36-year-old man who posed a serious threat to public safety and the lives of police officers by wielding two knives.

The intervention occurred after the police received a report about the suspect causing chaos in the public street and damaging the windshield of a taxi. Upon arrival, the suspect violently resisted and threatened the officers with the knives, prompting the police inspector to fire two warning shots, which resulted in the suspect being injured in his foot.

The suspect was transferred to the hospital for medical treatment and is currently under police guard, awaiting the completion of the judicial investigation under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office. The investigation aims to uncover all the details surrounding the incident.

This event highlights the Moroccan police forces’ commitment to safeguarding public order, protecting lives, and confronting any threat that undermines the security of citizens and societal stability.
