Morocco Fes Sports Club Appoints Akram Romani as Head Coach

The management board of Morocco Fes Sports Club officially announced yesterday the appointment of former national player Akram Romani as head coach of the first team, signing a one-and-a-half-year contract. This decision aligns with the club’s strategy to foster local talent and leverage national expertise.

Romani, a homegrown talent, began his football career as a left-back with Morocco Fes during the 1996-1997 season before venturing into international professional football. In 2000, he joined Belgium’s Genk, where he played over 100 matches and contributed to the team’s second Belgian league title in 2002. Romani also represented Genk in the UEFA Champions League, gaining invaluable continental experience. He later continued his professional career with Dutch club Roosendaal, adding more accolades to his achievements.

On the international stage, Romani shone as part of Morocco’s national team, winning the African Youth Cup in 1997 and competing in the 2000 Olympic Games. He also participated in the African Cup of Nations in 2002 and 2004, earning a royal tribute and being awarded the National Merit Medal of Officer for his contributions to Moroccan football.

In addition to his playing career, Romani has built an impressive coaching portfolio. He served as an assistant coach for Morocco Fes’ first team, working alongside prominent figures like Abdelhaye Ben Sultan and Erina. He also contributed to the Moroccan Royal Football Federation by coaching youth categories (U16, U17, and U20), fostering a new generation of national talents and demonstrating his commitment to the development of Moroccan football.

Romani’s appointment reflects the Morocco Fes management’s focus on investing in national expertise and enhancing the club’s local identity. Fans are optimistic that this decision will yield positive results and restore the team’s past glory, drawing on Romani’s vast experience as both a professional player and coach.

The club is expected to host a press conference to officially introduce the new coach and outline the objectives and ambitions for the coming phase.
