Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication Discusses Government Efforts to Support Youth in Rural Areas

During the oral question session in the House of Councillors, a parliamentary question was raised about the government’s efforts to enhance services for youth, especially in remote areas, and ways to support cultural infrastructure to achieve territorial justice. Mr. Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication, provided a detailed response regarding the ministry’s plans and initiatives to improve the conditions of youth and promote the cultural sector.

The minister reviewed the current state of youth infrastructure, noting that the ministry currently manages 807 youth facilities, including 667 youth centers, 53 reception centers, and 6 socio-sports centers. He emphasized that 43% of these institutions are located in rural areas, reflecting the ministry’s commitment to bringing services closer to youth throughout the country. He also stressed that the ministry is currently focusing on rehabilitating and equipping these institutions to meet the aspirations of young people before expanding the construction of new ones.

The minister addressed challenges facing the sector, such as the shortage of qualified human resources in rural areas. He highlighted that the ministry is working on digitizing its services through digital applications, allowing youth to access advanced training programs in areas such as languages, communication, and modern technologies. He also pointed out that the ministry is aiming to sign strategic partnerships with both the public and private sectors to expand access to cultural and sports facilities.

Additionally, the minister explained that the ministry has launched initiatives to encourage youth involvement in cultural and social activities, such as programs that support mobility between regions and offer free overnight stays in cultural centers to promote domestic cultural tourism. These programs aim to enhance interaction among youth from different regions and encourage them to gain new experiences and skills.

In conclusion, the minister confirmed that the number of youth benefiting from the ministry’s services has increased from 500,000 in 2021 to over one million currently. He reaffirmed that the ultimate goal is to ensure comprehensive benefits for all Moroccan youth. The minister’s response highlighted a comprehensive vision to activate the role of youth in national development and expand the range of services available to them.
