In response to the royal speech delivered by His Majesty King Mohammed VI on the occasion of the Green March anniversary, Moroccan community leaders in the United States organized a roundtable discussion on December 27, 2024, at the Media Center in New York under the theme “For Our Full Rights as Citizens.” The event featured in-depth discussions on implementing royal directives aimed at restructuring the Council of the Moroccan Community Abroad (CCME) and establishing the Mohammed VI Foundation.
The discussions resulted in several recommendations aimed at translating the royal vision into tangible actions. Participants emphasized the importance of restructuring the CCME to ensure comprehensive representation of all community components and enhancing its role as a consultative institution. Recommendations also highlighted the need to deepen the concept of citizenship and enable effective political and public participation for Moroccans living abroad, both in their home country and their host countries.
Regarding the Mohammed VI Foundation, participants called for the establishment of overseas branches to mobilize national expertise and involve them in development projects that benefit both Morocco and its diaspora. The critical role of Moroccan media in host countries was also stressed, as it serves as a strategic tool to connect the diaspora with their homeland and strengthen national identity.
These recommendations reflect the aspirations of Moroccans living abroad for equal rights and active participation, aligning with the royal vision that prioritizes diaspora-related issues. There is hope that these recommendations will translate into actionable measures, reinforcing the diaspora’s role as a key player in Morocco’s development and strengthening their ties to their homeland.
