In a bid to enhance youth participation in local governance and encourage their active contribution to political and community life, the Fes Municipality has announced the completion of the process to establish the Youth Municipal Council. This initiative is being carried out in partnership with the Network of Strong Cities in the Middle East and North Africa and the Moroccan Association of Local Government Presidents in Rabat.

The final program of this initiative reflects the outcomes of the extensive consultative meetings between all relevant parties. The timeline for this phase has been outlined as follows: from January 16 to 20, 2025, applications for the position of President of the Youth Municipal Council will be accepted, accompanied by a CV and supporting documents. The election campaign will begin on Tuesday, January 21 and will continue until 5:00 PM on Thursday, January 23, with the voting process for the elected president starting at 6:30 PM.

On Friday, January 24, a meeting will be held to complete the structure of the council, under the supervision of the Mayor of Fes, with the involvement of the delegated deputy and the elected president. Saturday, January 25, will be dedicated to a training workshop led by the Regional Network of Strong Cities, followed by the announcement of the complete structure of the council and the closing of the program with a special ceremony. On February 6, 2025, the Youth Municipal Council will be presented for approval by the Fes Municipal Council.

This initiative is part of the efforts to involve young people in decision-making processes that impact the future of their city, by providing them with a platform to present their ideas and projects. The Youth Municipal Council is expected to reflect an innovative youth vision capable of contributing to sustainable development and reinforcing the values of participatory democracy.
