Moroccan MP Calls for Ending Political Point-Scoring and Focus on National Issues

During the plenary session of the Moroccan Parliament held on Monday, January 20, 2025, which was dedicated to oral questions, a stirring intervention took place when one MP made a strong call to halt political point-scoring and to focus on issues that truly matter to the Moroccan people.

In his speech before Parliament, the MP expressed his discontent with the political bickering between the opposition and the ruling majority. He described the current situation in the Parliament as a reflection of a political conflict that does not serve the interests of the citizens or meet their aspirations. The MP said, addressing his colleagues in the assembly: “Honestly, I don’t know who is trying to outdo whom, as the opposition competes with the majority, and the majority competes with the opposition on a critical issue an issue that has been placed at the top of the agenda by the political leadership, led by His Majesty the King.”

The MP pointed out that the Parliament had become a stage for political point-scoring, stressing that everyone was focused on “gaining political points” rather than addressing the real issues that concern the people. He remarked: “We, as Parliament, are wasting time on fruitless disputes, while we should be uniting to work for the national interest.”

The MP also sounded the alarm about the council’s preoccupation with political competition at a time when economic and social challenges are intensifying, requiring political consensus to enhance stability and serve the public good. He added: “We must distinguish between the government majority and the parliamentary majority; we are here to represent the people, and the national interest must be at the heart of our focus.”

In conclusion, the MP called for Parliament to become a space for constructive dialogue and serious discussions, rather than a battleground for political conflicts that only exacerbate crises. He urged an end to the point-scoring that weakens Parliament’s role in addressing the country’s major national issues.
