This morning, an unprecedented incident occurred in the Almohades Tunnel in the heart of Casablanca when a heavy truck became stuck inside, causing a significant disruption to traffic on one of the city’s busiest thoroughfares.
Immediately following the incident, civil protection and police forces intervened to manage the situation. To facilitate the removal of the stuck truck, air was released from its rear tires to reduce its height. After intensive efforts, the specialized teams succeeded in extricating the truck and reopening the tunnel.
The accident resulted in major traffic congestion that lasted for several hours, along with substantial material damage inside the tunnel, notably the destruction of some fans installed within it. Consequently, authorities decided to temporarily close the tunnel to avoid any further risks.
It is worth noting that this tunnel, which connects Avenue des FAR to the Marina area, is exclusively reserved for light vehicles, with a sign at its entrance indicating a maximum height limit of 3 meters. Despite these warnings, such incidents continue to recur, raising questions about drivers’ adherence to traffic regulations and the effectiveness of these measures in preventing similar occurrences.
