On Wednesday, last week, the judicial police in the city of Taourirt arrested an individual who adheres to the extremist ideology of the terrorist organization “ISIS.” This arrest is part of ongoing security efforts to combat terrorist threats and enhance national stability. The operation followed intelligence received from the General Directorate for National Security (DGST).
The investigations led to the arrest of the suspect, a teacher from the “Sidi Chafi” village in the Taourirt province. A search of his residence revealed suspicious chemicals that could potentially be used in the production of homemade explosives, including bottles containing hydrochloric acid, hydrogen peroxide, and zinc sulfate. Additionally, knives, mobile phones, and electronic storage devices were seized.
According to a statement from the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ), initial information indicates that the suspect had collected specialized information about materials and mechanisms used in manufacturing explosives and had received training in how to prepare them for carrying out a terrorist plot targeting public safety and national security.
The suspect’s case has been referred to the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations, and he is currently under provisional detention while investigations, overseen by the public prosecutor’s office responsible for terrorism cases, continue. The investigation aims to uncover all the terrorist targets the suspect had planned to execute and verify the existence of any potential accomplices involved in the planned terrorist scheme.
