In a comprehensive annual report, the Moroccan General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) has unveiled its achievements and activities for the year 2024, highlighting significant progress in various areas, from digital transformation to crime fighting.
Qualitative Leap in Digital Transformation
The year 2024 witnessed important developments in electronic services, with the Directorate announcing its transition to the second level of exploiting the digital infrastructure for administrative services. In a pioneering move, institutional partnerships were expanded to generalize the use of the “Trusted Third Party for Identity Verification” system, enhancing digital security and facilitating electronic transactions.
The Directorate also announced the development of the second generation of the electronic national identity card, which will become an integrated electronic service support, representing a qualitative shift in the field of digital identity.
Notable Decline in Crime Rates
The report highlighted tangible success in implementing the interim security strategy to combat crime (2022-2026). This was reflected in a clear decrease in crime rates, especially those associated with violence. Robberies under threat decreased by 24%, while car thefts declined by 20%, and violent robberies by 12%.
In a related context, sexual assaults decreased by 4%, and drug cases declined by 7%. Overall, the Directorate achieved a high deterrence rate of 95% in the general aspect of crime, reflecting the effectiveness of the security measures taken.
Strengthening Human Resources and International Cooperation
As part of strengthening its human capabilities, the Directorate organized six external competitions resulting in the recruitment of 6,523 employees in various ranks. It also worked on updating and upgrading IT applications to serve citizens’ security, and linking the police district management system with the new information system for managing felonies and misdemeanors files.
On the international front, the Directorate confirmed the strengthening of Morocco’s position as a trusted partner in the security field at both regional and international levels.
