On the first day of the Third National Forum on Advanced Regionalization, held in Tangier, Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, read out a royal message addressed to the participants of this important event. The message outlined key royal directives and strategies aimed at achieving sustainable development across Morocco’s various regions. The forum, which started on December 20 and runs until December 21, 2024, comes at a time when Morocco faces several pressing challenges, including water stress, transportation system development, and digital transformation—issues that have become top priorities on the country’s agenda.
In his message, His Majesty King Mohammed VI emphasized the structural water crisis Morocco is facing, which requires urgent and effective measures to address water scarcity. The King underscored that this issue must receive attention from all relevant stakeholders, including local authorities and regional communities. In this regard, His Majesty called for strengthening water governance and ensuring coordination between public policies to ensure the optimal use of this vital natural resource. Addressing the water crisis, according to the King, is a crucial step in achieving sustainable regional development.
Regarding the transportation system, the King highlighted that Morocco will experience significant improvements in this sector in the coming years, particularly in preparation for hosting the 2030 World Cup. He pointed out that the development of the transportation infrastructure is a cornerstone for achieving integrated regional development, which will help reduce regional and social disparities.
His Majesty also addressed the importance of digital transformation, stressing that it is no longer a mere option but a pressing necessity. Digital technology has become an integral part of all aspects of life, including local governance. The King urged the accelerated integration of digital technology into various developmental processes, which will enhance public services and foster transparency.
The King concluded his message by emphasizing the need for local authorities and communities to work alongside the state to achieve the ambitious goals set within the context of advanced regionalization. He stressed the importance of unified efforts to create a developmental environment that contributes to the well-being of citizens and promotes sustainable development.
