French Ambassador to Morocco, Christophe Lecourtier, landed Monday evening at Hassan I Airport in Laayoune, in an unprecedented visit to the southern provinces that will continue until November 13.
The Ambassador and his accompanying delegation were received by Abdesslam Bekrate, the Wali (Governor) of the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra region. The visit includes the cities of Laayoune and Dakhla, where the diplomatic delegation will hold a series of meetings with local officials and elected representatives, as well as inspect several major development projects in the region.
The delegation accompanying the Ambassador includes prominent figures, among them Jean Heilbronn, Second Political Counselor, and Stéphane Souly, Deputy Consul in charge of consular affairs at the French Consulate General in Agadir, along with officials from education and cultural sectors.
This visit coincides with economic days organized by the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Morocco (CFCIM), featuring the participation of about fifty business leaders and economic decision-makers from both countries. The delegation also includes thirty French company executives who are members of the Chamber.
The visit aims to assess the region’s needs and explore ways to support its economic and social development, in line with the positions expressed by French President Emmanuel Macron during his recent visit to Morocco, reflecting growing French interest in strengthening bilateral relations and developing cooperation with the region.
