The Ministry of Equipment and Water has announced that construction progress on the Ratba Dam, located kilometers from the city of Ghafsai in Taounate Province, has exceeded 30 percent by the end of October 2024.
Through its “Our Water” platform, the Ministry revealed that work is proceeding at full speed to complete this gigantic project, which is currently the second-largest dam under construction in the kingdom. The project is expected to be completed in February 2028, a year ahead of its original schedule.

- Earthwork volume: 22 million cubic meters
- Concrete volume: 500,000 cubic meters
- Storage capacity: 1.009 billion cubic meters
- Reservoir area: 2,678 hectares
- Annual water inflow: 351 million cubic meters
- Total cost: 4 billion dirhams
This project is part of the National Emergency Program for drinking water and irrigation water supply (2020-2027), aiming to:
- Secure water supply
- Generate hydroelectric power
- Provide flood protection
- Regulate water resources of Ouerghha River
- Reduce siltation of Al Wahda Dam
- Promote ecological, mountain, and rural tourism
- Develop the fish farming sector
