The Minister of Interior presided today over the installation ceremony of Mr. Mouad Jamai as Wali (Governor) of the Fez-Meknes region and Governor of the Fez prefecture, following his appointment by King Mohammed VI during the ministerial council held on October 18, 2024.
During the installation ceremony, the Minister of Interior emphasized the significant importance of these appointments in the current national context, as the Kingdom of Morocco looks forward to giving strong momentum to its development path through the implementation of several important economic and social programs.
Development Projects Worth 11 Billion Dirhams
The Fez-Meknes region is witnessing the launch of structured projects with a total cost exceeding 11 billion dirhams, including:
- Road infrastructure development worth 3.65 billion dirhams
- Transportation sector enhancement worth 754 million dirhams
- Sports facilities worth 373 million dirhams
- Health and social protection worth 370 million dirhams
- Energy transition and sustainable development projects worth 828 million dirhams
Old Medina Rehabilitation Program
The ancient medina of Fez will benefit from a special rehabilitation program worth 1.26 billion dirhams for the period 2025-2029, including:
- Historical heritage restoration (180 million dirhams)
- Economic and tourism attractiveness improvement (165 million dirhams)
- Proximity facilities restoration and rehabilitation (184 million dirhams)
- Treatment of buildings at risk of collapse (100 million dirhams)
In his closing remarks, the Minister of Interior emphasized the important role of Walis and Governors in implementing public policies and meeting citizens’ aspirations, stressing the necessity of working according to a participatory approach that brings together administrative authorities, local communities, the private sector, and civil society stakeholders to achieve the desired development.
